The Knife Shines On Henrik's Diamonds While Extrawelt Pheeks Out To Jelinek's Same Old Tricks Again

----/----

It's still funny.

FYI, strategically named blog posts are the layman's scholarly journals.

I just wanted to find out what time the B61 would be coming by and ended up learning about earth-penetrating weapons.

I couldn't be more pleased with A Public Space.

----/----

On to the music...

Here's a fantastic version of this song that is interesting in that it allows the listener to hear what brother and sister later chopped out in order to make the song more album-oriented for Silent Shout.

The Knife - Like A Pen (Demo Version) // RABID RECORDS (RABID 034)

All the usual suspects have been quiet about this one. I can't really fathom why.

Jan Jelinek - Up To My Same Old Trick Again // ~SCAPE (SC 041 CD)

Extrawelt - Titelheld // COCOON RECORDINGS (COR 12 024)

Henrik Schwarz - Jimis 2006 (Mix 3) // DIAMONDS & PEARLS MUSIC (DNP 005)

Pheek - Untitled // WE ARE (WRR007)

And a classic.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part I-V) // COLUMBIA RECORDS (PC 33453)

Right Hand Up In The Air

BLK:MRKT beat me to this one, but I still have to post it even though I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Perhaps I set my expectations too high cuz Heartthrob's "Baby Kate" from the min2MAX comp earlier this year could not be more perfect, and Silent Shout--I mean, come on. No one can argue that it's not a brilliant record. But when the two get together the results are a bit less intriguing than I had imagined. I'm not giving up on it yet though. I think what I want is more from the chorus, or maybe I want it taken out. It's too melodic for the starkness that Heartthrob gives the song. Anyway, I provide; you decide.

Heartthrob - Baby Kate

In other news, The Knife will be playing at Webster Hall in about a month which should be fantastic. Also, this month there are a few events going on in honor of Steve Reich's birthday. If you have a complex mass of neurons linked together to allow such wonders as vision, taste, olfaction, hearing and--if you're lucky--thought, then you should go to one of them. I personally will be attending a performance of Electric Counterpoint, Different Trains, and Music for 18 Musicians featuring Pat Metheny, Kronos Quartet and Steve Reich himself at Carnegie Hall on October 18th. Tickets may set you back a bit, but it can be and will be nothing but a repetitively riveting recital. There are also events at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Lincoln Center that will no doubt be worth attending if you have the means.

Here's a piece by Reich. And, yes, they are all this good.
